The Austrian Nutrition Society (ÖGE) dedicates the current issue of its journal Ernährung aktuell (3/2025) to the topic of shift work and health. The article discusses how irregular working hours and night shifts can disrupt sleep and metabolism, increasing the risk of overweight, obesity and metabolic syndrome. It also outlines the objectives of SHIFT2HEALTH, an EU-funded research project coordinated by the University of Vienna, which aims to better understand these links and to develop practical strategies to support healthier nutrition among shift workers.
