Cross-sectional study completed across five European countries

02.01.2026

SHIFT2HEALTH has completed its cross-sectional study examining lifestyle, behaviour and early obesity-related biomarkers among shift workers in five European countries.

The cross-sectional study within SHIFT2HEALTH has been completed across Austria, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands and Poland. A total of 891 participants from the industrial and healthcare sectors were recruited, including night-shift workers and day workers as a control group.

The study combined lifestyle and behavioural data (WP1) with biological markers related to early obesity risk (WP2) to better understand how shift work may influence metabolic health.

Data analysis and laboratory analyses are now underway. The results will provide the foundation for the upcoming intervention studies (WP3 and WP4), which are planned to start in 2026 in the same countries.
